can someone fashion-savvy please answer my question?
thanks for viewing my question. my question is, if fashion magazines like Vogue are preparing for their Fall Fashion Issue (Sep), when must they close that issue? is that deadline much later if it was for other issues? will they be immediately published right after that? if they close an issue earlier, will it be on sale earlier too?
how about the photo shoots? when must they be done? i’m takin a journalism course so i guess these kind of infos can help me more or less.
finally, does this process apply to other type of magazines?
The timing of the close of a magazine is similar for all magazines. Vogue’s Fall Fashion issue is their largest issue and takes longer to print than an average issue – so their close will start a little earlier in order to get it out ontime. The final close is probably end of June/beginning of July as the issue is always out in August and it take 2 weeks to ship to the newsstands.
Magazines print in forms – sets of pages. For a perfect bound (flat spine) title like Vogue – this will be in a different order than a saddle stitched (stapled) magazine like Time. So the deadlines are by forms – not for the whole magazine. There is a final close also for the last form.
The fashion shoots will be done in May at the latest probably.
The issue is typically on sale at the same time each month (like 2nd week or 3rd week for example) and is typically pre-weekend (out on Thurs/Fri).
